The Calangute-Saligao police arrested three suspected Nigerian drug peddlers in a late night operation that involved a filmy-style road chase along the coastal Calangute-Candolim-Pilerne belt.
The chase ended in Saligao after the driver of the car with Nigerians lost control and landed in one of the fields in the village.
Drugs worth Rs 1.50 lakh was found in their possession.
Acting on a tip-off a Calangute police vehicle intercepted a silver i10 Hyundai car near Palmarinha Resort, Calangute.
On noticing the police vehicle the driver of the i10 car along with two other occupants sped towards Candolim with Calangute police vehicle in hot pursuit.
The car took to a turn towards Pilerne and finally took the Saligao road but the driver of the car lost control at the sharp turn near Harmalkar Residency and landed straight
into the fields, police said.
The car overturned with all four tyres facing the sky.
There was a woman and two men in the car.
Saligao Police informed that the car was driven by Ferninand Okonkwo (47), a Nigerian. The two other occupants of the car also Nigerians were Michael Okafo (38) and Ms Ogechukwu Precious Anutanwa (29).
Police registered an offence against the driver of the car for driving in a rash and negligent manner.
Police informed that a search revealed that all the accused persons were in illegal possession of 16 grams cocaine, 13 grams MDMA, 0.70 grams of Ectasy tablets and 0.18 grams of LSD, all worth Rs 1,54,000.
All the three accused persons have been arrested under section 21(b), 22(b), 22(c) and 29 of the NDPS Act. Further investigation is in progress.
