Calangute Police on Wednesday nabbed three accused, who had fled to Goa after allegedly committing a crime in Delhi.
Addressing a news conference at Porvorim, SP Chandan Choudhary said they received information from Delhi Police that three accused “ Vipin Sunil Dagar (24) from New Delhi, Praveen Surjay Dagar (23) from New Delhi and Ajay Kumar Ahlawat (22) from Haryana fled from the scene when their car was stopped for checking on January 11.
“The three accused fled from the scene after firing at the police constable on duty. Delhi Police registered an offence against the trio under the Arms Act and attempt to murder under Sections 186, 353, 307 read with 34 of IPC on the same day,” said SP Choudhary.
SP Choudhary said the police on receiving the information started investigations immediately and the only clue received by the Goa Police was about an ATM card belonging to one of the accused being swiped at a hotel and shopping centres in the Calangute area. This information was passed to Calangute PI Jivba Dalvi, who along with his team immediately started the investigation. It was revealed that the ATM card was swiped at a wine and liquor store at Umtavado-Calangute.
“The police then lay in wait at the wine store in civil clothes for almost one hour anticipating that the accused might come to buy more drinks. Later, when one of the accused came to buy liquor, the police nabbed him. On interrogation, he revealed the whereabouts of the other two accused and volunteered to show the cops the restaurant where the two accused were having dinner with their friends from New Delhi.”
“Without wasting any time or waiting for additional staff, PI Dalvi pounced on the accused who were having dinner. As it was suspected that the accused might be carrying arms, PI Dalvi used his weapon to keep the situation under control,” said SP Choudhary.
The accused made an attempt to flee from the spot, but PI Dalvi along with his staff nabbed them at gun point. The identity of the three accused has been established and they have been arrested under Section 41 of CrPC. “The other persons found at the dining table were questioned and let go and will be called again, if required,” SP Choudhary added.
SP Choudhary congratulated PI Dalvi and his team of PSI Sitaram Malik, Kirtidas Gaude and Constables Sanjyot Kerkar, Samir Naik, Vijay Pirankar and other staff for nabbing the accused and declared a reward for PI Dalvi for his efforts.
Choudhary said they have information that one of the accused, Praveen Dagar is involved in crimes at Leh Police Station “ Jammu and Kashmir and was arrested by a Special Task force, Uttarakhand.
