A national from Kazakhstan who had escaped from the detention centre in Mapusa on June 16, has been nabbed by police in Mandrem.
The foreigner, Alexander Arkhipov, was arrested by Mapusa police at Morjim and was later admitted to the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour at Bambolim.
Arkhipov had scaled over the wall near the wash basin at the back of the centre and had escaped from the detention centre.
Following the incident, police and security agencies swung into action, issuing alerts to all police stations across Goa. Surveillance was intensified at railway stations, bus stands, ports and the airport, while multiple police teams deployed to track down the absconding foreign national.
Mapusa police then received information that Arkhipov was seen in Morjim. A Mapusa police team along with the teams from the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) and Mandrem police rushed to Morjim and nabbed him on Wednesday night.
