Acting on complaints by AAP leader Prof Ramrao Wagh and farmers of Neura-O-Grande tenants association, the Tiswadi Mamlatdar has directed the Agassaim police to keep vigil on release of saline water in fields by sluice gate operators.

In the directive, the Mamlatdar has pointed out that such incidents cause grave loss to the agriculturists who are cultivating the fields.

“You are directed to maintain vigil at the sluice gates especially at night to ensure that such incidents do not occur,” the directives by the Mamlatdar to the Agassaim PI states.

Speaking to The Goan on the directives, Prof Wagh said that such orders should not remain just on paper.

“There needs to be a proper monitoring mechanism to ensure that saline water is not released in the fields,” Wagh stated.

“The areas where the sluice gates are located are remote areas and require well equipped police personnel to monitor such illegal activities,” he stated, while adding that the help of coastal police should also be taken up as access through the Zuari river is much easier.
