Two accused in the Corlim dacoity case - Dattatray Gaude and Pushpa Gadekar - have filed for bail before the Children’s Court.
The duo were arrested along with two others for assisting the two others - Vijaya Patoli and Siddharth Barse, allegedly members of an organised gang, to carry out the robbery.
The police have already recovered an amount of Rs 70,000 from Gaude and Gadekar, which are believed to be the spoils of the robbery.
According to sources in the police department, Gaude and Gadekar assisted the others showing them houses which could be their potential targets as well as providing them with logistics support in terms of vehicles, etc.
The police also informed that cash and jewellery stolen in the dacoity have not been recovered so far.
“Dattatray Gawde was working for Keshavnath Naik of Ravalnath Nagar, Corlim and he provided information to the others that Keshavanath had kept a lot of cash in his house, after which a plan was hatched to rob his house,” the police official said.
The robbers also damaged the CCTV cameras and thereafter decamped with the complainant's car (GA-07-E-9197), which was parked outside his house.
The official added that the accused had also surveyed other houses as well, but finally chose this one as it was easily accessible.
It may be recalled that seven masked robbers had looted a house at Corlim and robbed cash and gold ornaments worth about Rs 10 lakh and decamped in a stolen car, after confining the inmates of the house at knife point.
Keshavnath Naik of Ravalnath Nagar, Corlim, had complained to the police that seven masked persons, armed with knife and wooden stick, had entered his house by break opening the rear door between 2.30 pm and 3.30 pm on March 7.
The complainant further stated that the accused confined his family members at knife point and wooden stick, and tied their hands, legs and mouth with a cloth available in the bedroom.
The police said the robbers stole cash of Rs 2 lakh and gold ornaments worth about Rs 7.98 lakh.
