Affected locals of Corlim have submitted their objections to the NH4A road widening project.
The objections have been submitted to the Special Land Acquisition Officer of National Highways after notification for land acquisition was published in the local dailies recently.
While submitting their objections, the owners pointed out that when the project was initially planned in 2010, the same was dropped after the locals had voiced their opposition to the same.
Further, the locals pointed out that an alternate bypass road was planned which was passing through the fields of Corlim and neighbouring villages.
While filing their objections, the locals have pointed out that there would be unbearable loss of their livelihood, property and identity.
“We face loss of livelihood, identity and safety. We, the villagers have put our lifetime earnings into the construction of our houses,” the locals have pointed out while stating that it would mean that they would have to start all over, which is not possible since many of them are senior citizens.
“Further, people working within the village have no other source of income and disruption of the entire village would completely bring business to a standstill,” the locals pointed out.
Further, they have also pointed out that the road widening project would lead to disruption of village life, threaten the safety of citizens and lead to an increase in pollution.
The locals have also highlighted that with the one four-lane of the new Zuari bridge being proposed to be thrown open to traffic by December, most of the inter-state traffic, which is currently serviced by Corlim NH4A, will be re-routed through the new Zuari bridge.
