Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha who too was present at the Dy Collector’s office to raise objections against the acquisition of land said that the people will be moving courts against the procedure used for procedures adopted for land acquisition.
"I have been told that two different acts are being used -- one which is the Railways Act and the other is Land Acquisition Act. Two different acts are being used for the same project along the same route which cannot happen and is totally wrong. I am sure everyone will go to the court on this," she said.
"I am aware that there is certain courtesy to be displayed when an elected representative arrives, especially to a Government office. However sometimes instructions are given and being followed and I know it was wrong but it was done as per the instructions,” said Saldanha when questioned about her reaction on keeping the opposition legislators waiting outside the Dy Collector’s office.
Saldanha said that she had come to reiterate her objections to the acquisition of land for the Railways vis-Ã -vis double tracking project.
"I have reiterated my objection because if I say yes to this acquisition, it means that I am saying yes to destruction of people’s lives, house and Goa’s heritage which we cannot allow. Goa is a small state with only two districts. Should we destroy South Goa to lay the tracks which have no benefit for the people of the State? There is no benefit and only destruction and we will fight against doubling of the tracks," said Saldanha.
