Two deaths and 71 people contracting the dreaded Coronavirus were reported in the 24-hours between the evenings of Wednesday and Thursday registering a nearly 100 per-cent hike in fresh cases, according to the official daily bulletin issued by the Directorate of Health Services on Thursday.
A 50-year-old lady from Sanguem is reported to have died within one hour of being admitted to the South Goa District Hospital on Wednesday and she was found to be infected with the Coronavirus.
According to the doctors who attended on her, she showed symptoms such as dry cough for four days prior to her admission and had bouts of breathlessness for about a day.
She reported to the hospital in a critical condition and had very low oxygen saturation levels.
Another 80-year-old woman from Raia also succumbed to Covid at the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim on Thursday.
These two deaths have raised Goa's pandemic toll to 791.
The covid positive cases in the state also witnessed a surge. 71 of the 1,632 samples tested were positive for Covid. Only 22 recovered and the active count crossed 500 mark and stands at 531.
Meanwhile the DHS has set up a helpline number '104' to aid beneficiaries of the vaccination rollout.
Those listed for the jab can now use the helpline to reconfirm their appointments and get related information.
