Cortalim ZP and President of Cortalim Farmers Club (CFC) Anton Vas has offered two harvesting machines to farmers of Velsao while the CFC will procure trailers to transport harvesters in a bid to promote farming in Cortalim, Velsao and surrounding areas.
Speaking to reporters, Vas said the CFC will procure a new tractor and a trailer to transport harvesters and other farming machines to help farmers cultivate their land.
Vas lauded farmers under the Pale Tolem Xetkar Association (PTXA) for cultivating farms which had been ignored for several years after being submerged in waterbodies.
“The CFC will further support farmers by adding tractor which has been sanctioned by the government,” said Vas.
Former Panch and PTXA President Roquezinho D'Souza said they had recently met the Zonal Agricultural Officer, who provided details on how farmers can generate better revenue through farming activity.
“People have now decided to take up farming in lands which were spoilt after being submerged for several years.”
“There are other farmlands lying unutilised for several years mainly because sewage water from hotels and residential colonies have polluted the farmlands. Efforts are being made to clear drainage pipes so that these farmlands are fit for cultivation," said D’Souza.
