Appealing to Goan youth to understand the real history of Shivaji Maharaj and his rich contributions, noted historian Jayesh Thali accused some people of trying to spread misinformation that Shivaji has no connection with Goa.
He was addressing a gathering at Shiv Jayanti celebrations organised by Mapusa Utkarsh Mandal near Mapusa circle. Among those present included former MMC chairpersons Sandeep Falari and Sudhir Kandolkar, Mandal's President Narayan Karekar, former councillor Tushar Tople, Sanjay Mishal, Gurudas Waingankar, Rajsing Rane and Adv Paresh Rao.
"Shivaji Maharaj had even renovated the famous Saptkoteshwar temple at Bicholim in 1672 and there is proof of his connection with Goa. After him, his son, Sambhaji, had maintained the stronghold of Marathas in Goa," said Thali.
Sandeep Falari and Sudhir Kandolkar also spoke at the event. Mapusa Rotary Club City President Paresh Rao, who had helped in the installation of the statue of Shivaji, was felicitated at the event.
