Asserting that the old guard in the Goa Congress will all join hands to bring the party back to power, South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha on Wednesday said the party high command will take a call on the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) leadership after the ongoing Assembly elections in some of the states.
While conceding and agreeing with Congress veteran Luizinho Faleiro that Congress in Goa has been on a decline in recent years, the MP said all the senior party leaders will shoulder the responsibility to rejuvenate the Congress ahead of the 2022 Assembly election.
Asked to comment on the leadership issue, more so after senior leader and Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro expressed his concern over the party’s state of affairs, Sardinha said the party leadership will resolve the leadership issue after the ongoing elections in some of the states.
Asked whether he would be in contention to take over the reigns of the GPCC, Sardinha shot back: “I am a soldier of Congress and would not shy away from any responsibility”.
On Pratima’s episode, Sardinha said that Congress would have won the Navelim seat if the ticket was given to any other candidate. “Winning an election does not only depend on the ticket but the candidate”, he reminded.
Taking a dig at Pratima for raking up the issue of grandfathers, Sardinha reminded that though the party needs new faces, people vote for the performance and delivery. “Age is only a number, what matters is performance and how a person delivers to the people”, he added.
Demanding resumption of mining operations, the MP said the state government by hook or by crook get the Centre to start legal mining in Goa and ensure that people will get employment.
