Sitting Cortalim ZP member and independent candidate Merciana Vas said she had addressed pending issues and improved basic facilities during her term of three years following the by-election after her husband and then ZP member, Anton Vas, was elected MLA of Cortalim.
She was interacting with residents across various parts of the constituency during her election campaign in Kesarval on Friday and Cansaulim on Saturday.
Vas went door-to-door meeting people, seeking their support and discussing local issues, and was warmly welcomed by residents in all the areas she visited.
She campaigned carrying her election symbol and was accompanied by panch members along with the Sarpanch of Cansaulim panchayat on Saturday.
The presence of local panchayat representatives drew attention from residents, many of whom gathered to interact with Vas and convey their appreciation for the work carried out in the constituency over the past three years.
Speaking during the campaign, Merciana Vas said the response from the people had strengthened her resolve to continue working for the constituency.
“In the short span of three years after the by-election, our focus was on taking up development works without delay. We ensured that pending issues were addressed and basic facilities were improved. The support I am receiving today shows that people have noticed this work,” she said.
Residents who interacted with Vas praised her for acting swiftly on development-related issues. A resident from Cansaulim said that several long-pending works were taken up immediately after her victory.
“Road repairs, drainage works and other basic needs were handled quickly. That is why people trust her,” the resident said.
Another local said Vas remained accessible to the public and was responsive to complaints.
“She was always available when we approached her. Problems were not pushed aside but followed up till they were solved,” the resident said.
Many residents assured Vas of their support, stating that her short tenure had brought visible changes and that they wanted continuity in development.
Vas also saw a tremendous response during her campaign at Kesarval on Friday.
