Court acquits murder accused after 16 years

The South Goa District and Sessions Court has acquitted Rahul Sharma, charged under Section 302 IPC after a long-pending trial of 16 years.

Rahul was arrested in December 2004 for murder of his work colleague, Pramod Soni at a Colva hotel, and was charged under Section 302 of IPC.  

Pending trial Rahul Sharma was absconding for 14 years and was re-arrested in the year 2018. The prosecution examined all-together 26 witnesses including the then PSI Jivba Dalvi, who was the Investigating Officer. The Sessions Judge, Edgar Fernandes on Thursday passed judgement acquitting Rahul Sharma of his charge of murder. 

Adv Amey Prabhu Desai argued the matter on behalf of the accused.
