The Goa Children’s Court has adjourned both the cases involving pop star Remo Fernandes to January 5, even as Fernandes, who was on a tour of Europe, returned to the State on the wee hours of January 1.
Both the cases -- the application filed by Aires Rodrigues that the police probe be monitored by the court given the possibility of political pressure on the police, and the anticipatory bail application filed by Fernandes, will now be heard on January 5.
Speaking to The Goan, Adv Rajeev Gomes, who is representing Remo Fernandes, said that the anticipatory bail application was filed after Fernandes notarising his affidavit before a notary in Panaji.
“The hearing of the case has been fixed on January 5,” Gomes said.
Meanwhile, Remo has withdrawn his intervention application he had filed in the petition seeking that the court monitor the police probe in the case of abusing a minor Adv Aires Rodrigues had filed against him.
“At that time there was no anticipatory bail application and we wanted to place certain facts before the court. Now, since our purpose is served, we did not wish to waste the time of the court, so we decided to withdraw it,” Gomes said.
Adv Aires Rodrigues has filed an intervention application in the anticipatory bail application filed by Remo, which wasn’t opposed, and hence allowed.
Remo Fernandes is accused of having verbally abused the 17-year-old minor girl Helan D’Souza of Malvan, who, while on a walking pilgrimage to Old Goa, was knocked down at Gurim on December 1 last year by the speeding car driven by his son Jonah in which Remo Fernandes was also travelling.
On a complaint filed by Adv Rodrigues, the Agassaim Police registered an FIR under Sec 8 of the Goa Children’s Act 2003 against Remo Fernandes after recording the statement of the minor victim girl before the Child Welfare NGO. The offence Remo Fernandes is charged with is non-bailable and carries an imprisonment of a maximum of three years along with a fine of up to Rs one lakh.
