Moves by the Colva police to close a three-year-old burglary case through final proceedings came a cropper after a Margao court directed the police to re-investigate the matter after the complainant maintained that the men-in-uniform failed to investigate thoroughly the case.
The Colva police has now been given three months to re-investigate the matter after taking cognizance of the evidence produced by the complainant Adrian Torres and file the report to the court.
The Colva police had submitted to the court that the crime has remained undetected and “A” final summary be granted in the case.
Torres, in his reply, however, told the court that the police officials attached to the Colva police station did not conduct the investigations in a diligent and proper manner inspite of furnishing necessary documentary evidence in the matter.
The burglary had taken place in the intervening night of March 2-3, 2017 when the burglars entered the apartment of the complainant at Pedda-Benaulim and decamped with gold and cash, all amounting to Rs 6.48 lakh when Torres and his family was in Kolhapur.
Saying that he had handed over documental evidence to the Colva police in connection with the burglary, Torres said the police authorities did not consider the evidence nor any attempt or efforts were made to conduct a thorough and diligent investigation in the case.
On the contrary, Torres submitted before the court that the important documentary evidence was completely overlooked by the men-in-uniform and no satisfactory explanation was given as to why the evidence was not or could not be considered.
