In an interesting development, the administration has shut down the care centre at the Colva residency in order to accommodate doctors, who will be drafted for Covid duties in the South Goa district hospital.
Another Covid care centre at the Multipurpose Stadium, Fatorda, has also been shut down and is now proposed to be utilized for the accommodation of the paramedics and health workers employed in the district Covid hospital.
The administration has justified the decision to shut down the two care
centres, saying there’s enough
space in the care centres at Farmagudi, Shiroda and
MPT, Vasco.
“When the occupancy in the care centres had reduced to nearly 50 per cent, the administration decided to instead utilize the Colva Residency and the Multipurpose Stadium, Fatorda, for the doctors and paramedics, who will employed at the South district hospital,” a senior district administration official told the media.
Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party has said that the closure of the care centre at Colva has shown that the government has been repeatedly failing on the triple Ts -- test of truth, transparency and testing -- front with regards to Covid management in the state.
AAP leader Sidharth Karapurkar pointed out the death figure was now touching 350 and the Health Minister by his own admission was saying that the cases would rise to about 1000 a day.
He said that if the government was projecting a rise in positive cases, then there was no reason to close the Colva centre.
“Shifting infrastructure from Hospicio to district hospital and back again to Hospicio shows that there is no proper planning in doing things. With Covid treatment yet to start in the district hospital, closure of care facility at Colva does not seem to be justified. There is no transparency in what the government is doing and no truth in what it is speaking,” he said.
