CANACONA
Poinguinim village is the latest village in Canacona to declare a lockdown, while three areas in Canacona taluka were declared micro containment zones as Covid cases were on the rise.
The South Goa Collector declared two areas in Canacona municipality at Panyefond and Tarir and one area at Dhupyemoll-Bhatpal in Shristhal panchayat as micro-containment zones, while also mentioning certain houses as buffer zones.
Teams of officials have been directed to do screening, testing, quarantine, isolation, social distancing and take other public health measures to contain the further spread of the virus.
Meanwhile, 59 new cases were detected in Canacona with the municipality recording 28 cases, followed by Shristhal (8), 6 each in Loliem-Polem and Gaondongrim, 4 each in Agonda and Poinguinim, Cotigao (2) and Cola(1).
The Poinguinim panchayat issued a notice calling for restrictions by shopkeepers and other operations for a period of 5 days from Thursday. Except for pharmacies and dispensaries, all other operations including shops are asked to remain open only from 6 am to 10 am from Thursday to Sunday.
Poinguinim Sarpanch Jagdish Gaonkar has sought the cooperation of villagers by staying home and safe and to help to break the chain of the deadly virus from spreading further. The taluka authorities and police have also been informed of the Poinguinim panchayat’s decision.
Meanwhile, CHC Canacona began admission of Covid patients in Canacona from Wednesday, after setting up the Covid ward facilities.
“Presently, arrangements have been done to admit 10 Covid patients, while the Covid Vaccination Centre from the old CHC building has been shifted elsewhere. More beds will be set-up to admit Covid patients,” informed BJP Secretary Sarvanand Bhagat.
