Goa's medical team tackling the Covid-19 onslaught continued to grapple with the deadly virus claiming people's lives.
Seven more died in the 24 hours preceding Thursday evening, according to the 'mortality bulletin' issued by the Directorate of Health Services (DHS).
A staggering 383 have fallen to the dreaded virus since the first positive case was reported in late March.
There was also no respite in the numbers of more testing positive with 673 more contracting the virus on Thursday. It took the tally of confirmed cases in the State to 30,552 equivalent to an alarming 2 per-cent of the resident population.
Meanwhile, of Thursday's seven deaths, the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) accounted for four. Two died at the ESI hospital in Margao and one at Asilo, the North Goa District Hospital in Mapusa.
Around a month ago, the authorities shifted the core battleground to tackle the disease from Margao's ESI Hospital designated the State's first Covid hospital, to GMC at Bambolim.
The stated purpose of the move was to prevent deaths and arrest the mortality rates but the medical team has seemingly achieved little success, if any, in that pursuit.
One of Thursday's seven victims was a Curtorim woman as young as 40 years. Two others - a man from Vasco and a woman from Taleigao - were in their fifties, trashing yet again the belief that it's the seniors who are at risk of losing the battle against the virus.
Another worrying trend is of patients dying as soon as they are brought or in a short while from being admitted to the treatment facilities raising questions on the efficacy of home isolation of patients. Thousands of active Covid-19 positive in the State are home isolated.
The DHS 'mortality bulletin' claims all seven of Thursday's dead Covid-19 patients had co-morbidities.
