Covid patients rush to ESI hospital; 90 in two days

MARGAO
Just two days after its re-commissioning as a 150-bedded COVID hospital on Sunday, the ESI hospital, Margao has witnessed a rush of Covid patients, with the total number of patients admitted in the hospital to 90 on Monday.

If day one of the resumption of hospital operations on Sunday saw the admission of 60 Covid patients, 30 more patients were admitted in the ESI hospital on Tuesday, taking the total number of patients admitted in the hospital in two-day time to 90.

Hospital officials have attributed the rush of patients to the rising number of Covid cases, with fresh Covid cases breaching the 826-figure mark in the jurisdiction of Margao Urban Health Centre,

“If the current rate of admissions continues, we will come to a stage wherein the newly re-commissioned may reach a situation in another two-day time”, remarked an official.

Given that the hospital has no ICU and ITU facility, the ESI hospital has been made into a Step Down facility, to play host to patients from the South Goa district  hospital and the Goa Medical College and hospital, Bambolim who are on the verge of recovery and discharge.

While the existing ESI staff,  including doctors, nurses and para-medics were roped in on Sunday to take care of the patients, sources said the ESI hospital management has made a detailed requisition to the state Health authorities to provide the basic manpower to tide over the situation.

Meanwhile, the number of active cases in the jurisdiction of Margao Urban Health Centre has touched the 826 figure mark on Monday. As against 777 cases reported in the jurisdiction of the centre on Sunday, the figure has touched 826 on Monday, a spike of 49 fresh cases.
