Cumbarjua MLA Pandurang Madkaikar assured the Panch Manxer locals that he would get the work done on the retaining walls of the Panch Manxer to Petter bundh in Carambolim at the earliest.

Pandurang made the assurance during his visit to the locality to review the work on the construction of the bundh, on Tuesday.

St Lourenco ZP member Dhaku Madkaikar, Carambolim panch Mohandas Kholkar, Panch Manxer locals and others were present on the occasion.

Thanking the MLA for undertaking the construction of the bundh before the onset of rains, the locals however said that the retaining walls have to be constructed at the earliest so that the mud used for the bundh does not wash away during rains.

It may be recalled that The Goan had highlighted that there were breaches in the Panch Manxer to Petter due to which saline water was entering the houses of Panch Manxer locals during the rains.

The Goan had also highlighted that the locals had recently met MLA Madkaikar and urged him to begin work on the bundh at the earliest.

“I am well aware of the situation and will ensure that the work on the retaining walls begins before the monsoons,” Madkaikar said while also assuring that work on the other bundh will also be taken up after completion of the Panch Manxer to Petter bundh.

“The construction of this bundh will provide protection from saline water entering the houses of Panch Manxer locals. However, the work on the other bundh will also be taken up so that the farmers can return to farming,” he added.
