Covid positivity rate in Goa spurts to all-time high

The daily Covid positivity rate in Goa on Tuesday shot up to an all-time high of 22.5 per cent. A total of 562 new cases of the infection were detected among the 2,504 samples tested in the last 24 hours. 

With this, the number of active cases in the State has risen to 4,888 while the recovery rate has fallen to 90.94 per cent. 

In all, 15 health centres across the State are currently struggling with a massive number of active Covid cases under their jurisdiction.

These include Urban Health Centre Margao (523), PHC Porvorim (460), PHC Ponda (369), PHC Candolim (311), UHC Panaji (340), UHC Mapusa (330), PHC Cortalim (110) and UHC Vasco (239), PHC Siolim (165), PHC Chimbel (177), PHC Cansaulim (155), Community Health Centre Sakhali (107) and PHC Corlim (110), PHC Bicholim (113), CHC Pernem (104).

Three Covid-related deaths were recorded in the mortality bulletin of the Health Department. With this, the Covid victim count of Goa has touched 853.

The deceased persons include an 89 year-old from Sawantwadi, A 57 year-old woman from Canca and a 91 year-old man from Thivim, all of whom passed away at Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.

Meanwhile, a total of 30,276 have been vaccinated since the start of Tika Utsav on April 10. On Tuesday, camps were held at four panchayats including Saligao, Assolda, Assolna and Bhati where a total of 588 beneficiaries received their first dose. Along with doses administered at government health centres and private hospitals, the Health Department vaccinated 5,576 beneficiaries on Tuesday. 

Till date, the state government has successfully administered the first dose to 1.5 lakh eligible beneficiaries while 34,000 have received their second doses as well.
