Three arrested for threats to Mandrem MLA

PERNEM
Three persons were arrested by Pernem police on charges of abusing and threatening Mandrem MLA Dayanand Sopte during a function at Arambol last week.

They were later released on bail, but the accused have accused the police of failing to act on their complaint accusing Sopte and two panchas of trespass and for abusing them.

According to reports, police arrested Sanjay Naik, Minakshi Talarnkar and Mahesh Talarnkar on April 9 and they were later released on bail.

The three accused are alleged to have abused and threatened Sopte when he had gone to inaugurate a roadwork at Chanai-wado, Arambol. One of the accused, Sanjay Naik, claims ownership of the land.

Meanwhile, the accused had also filed a police complaint against Sopte and two panchas, accusing them of trespassing into private property and claimed the police had not acted on their complaint.

“When I was alerted by our neighbour that the road was being built through our land, I visited the site along with my sister and brother-in-law,” said Naik.

“When I told the panchas that they were trespassing on our property, MLA Dayanand Sopte started abusing us,” alleged Sanjay Naik.

“After the incident, the police soon arrived at our house to arrest us,” he added.
