The government of Goa on Wednesday announced a one-time relief scheme of Rs 5,000 to those persons from the marginalized and unorganized sector who have lost their livelihoods due to the pandemic.
Announcing this, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stated that this relief will be given to autorickshaw drivers, motorcycle pilots, single driven taxi operators and NMR workers who have been listed with the panchayats, but who have not got any work during the pandemic.
Stating that approximately 25,000 to 30,000 people would be benefited by this scheme, depending on how many apply to avail it, Sawant said the person has to fill a simple form to seek the benefit. Those practicing traditional occupations and are registered under social welfare, rickshaw drivers, motorbike pilots and taxi owners as well as MGNREGA workers listed in the panchayats will be getting the benefit.
“If need be, the government will ask the respective associations of motorcycle pilots, autorickshaw drivers and taxi operators to provide the list of their members, to give the benefit under the scheme,” said CM.
LEGACY TO GO: Meanwhile, the last legacy of erstwhile Goa Daman and Diu Union Territory in the state’s legislations is set to fade away into history as the Cabinet on Wednesday approved the introduction of a bill in the assembly to remove the references of Daman and Diu from all the legislations of the state passed during the erstwhile Goa Daman and Diu Union Territory.
The Goa Laws (Amendment) Bill 2021 is likely to be passed in the forthcoming assembly session which seeks to omit the expression ‘Daman & Diu’ from the short title of certain acts enacted by the then legislative assembly of Goa Daman and Diu. It may be noted that several acts passed during erstwhile union territory status continue to have Goa Daman and Diu in the title.
Cabinet also approved the proposed amendment of the Goa Daman and Diu Town & Country Planning Act 1974, which was enacted during erstwhile union territory, to drop Daman and Diu from the title.
