Goenche Rakhandar has on Tuesday demanded that the government should take over the functioning of private hospitals under the Disaster Management Act and opposed the reopening of schools from October 2 given the spike in Covid cases across the state.
The NGO further demanded to know the steps initiated by the government to protect the lives of co-morbid patients.
Addressing the media after submitting a memorandum to the Additional District Collector, Rama Kankonkar said that reduction in the fees of private hospitals is not the solution.
“The government should take over the private hospitals under the Disaster Management Act. Why should the people pay the private hospitals for their treatment when they have been paying taxes to the government?” he demanded to know.
Reminding that the government had surveyed people with comorbidities a couple of months ago, Kankonkar demanded that the government should unveil the plan of action on how it intends to take care of such people.
The memorandum demanded creation of jobs or business opportunities for the youth who are rendered jobless because of the pandemic
“There’s a permanent trust deficit between the government and the public due to mismanagement of the pandemic. There’s a misinformation campaign being floated on the Covid crisis,” he added.
