Covid strikes big as 7 succumb, positivity @45%

Covid deaths saw a sudden spike in Goa on Sunday with seven more succumbing to the disease in the last 24-hours. The cumulative covid death toll of the state now stands at 3,557.  Nearly 35 people lost their lives in the period from January 1 to 16 due to Covid in Goa. 

With 3232 new cases (out of the 7049 samples tested) on Sunday, the Covid positivity rate zoomed to 45.85 per cent. With 1922 recoveries, the active Covid count of the state now stands at 21,381. 

Of the 7 people who succumbed to covid in Goa in the last 24-hours, 6 were not vaccinated, said the Directorate of Health Services. 

An 82-year-old lady from Revora, 85-year-old lady from Fatorda, 70-year-old man from Tiswadi, 67-year-old man from Mapusa, 70-year-old lady from Shiroda, 50-year-old man from Old Goa and 71-year-old man from Mapusa succumbed to THE virus. 

Of the seven deceased, only the 71-year-old man from Mapusa was vaccinated with both doses.
