Covid cases shot up at the Mopa airport project, as 109 new cases were recorded in the area on Thursday, taking the day’s count to 123 cases and the overall count to 1,048 in Pernem taluka.
Pernem taluka recorded its biggest jump in the daily Covid count after 123 testing positive on Thursday.
The Mopa airport project became the latest Covid hotspot in the taluka, with a staggering 109 cases being detected within a day.
Even though Mandrem still leads the list with 140 cases, Mopa is now just behind at 139 cases. Pernem town also hit the 100-mark as 3 persons tested positive.
The new cases were detected in Mopa (109), Alorna (2), Dhargal (2), Virnoda (1), Pernem town (3), Parcem (1), Morjim (1), Korgao (3) and Mandrem (1).
Pernem taluka now accounts for 1,048 Covid cases and besides Mandrem and Mopa, the other worst-hit villages are Arambol (65), Korgao (64), Dhargal (77), Tuem (86) and Parcem (47).
Meanwhile, Mandrem-based advocate Prasad Shahapurkar has petitioned the Pernem Deputy Collector Ravishankar Nipanikar to resolve issues faced by patients in village areas, as they find it difficult to obtain their test results due to slow internet connection.
He also requested the deputy collector to make it possible for panchayats to get the total Covid count as soon as possible so that panchayats can take further action in the matter.
