Even as Covid cases have been rising sharply in Pernem taluka with 25 new cases detected on Thursday, traffic has been moving freely across the State’s borders with Maharashtra in Pernem.
New cases were detected in Morjim (10), Dhargal (8), Pernem (2), Mandrem (2), Korgao (1) and Virnoda (2).
Despite a rise in cases, a visit to the state border check-posts at Kiranpani-Aronda, Naibag-Satarda and Patradevi-Banda on Thursday revealed that no tests were being conducted nor were motorists being asked for a Covid negative certificate on either side before moving across the two states.
The Banda market across the Maharashtra border has been kept open from 7 am till 12 pm, for the benefit of people from Pernem taluka.
