CANACONA
A notice was served to the councillors for a special meeting on Tuesday at 3.30 pm and some important transactions like fixation of DPC of employees and engagement of drivers for the newly procured garbage rickshaw, obtained through GSUDA, were part of the agenda.
All the councillors remained present, but Chief Officer Amul Gaonkar did not turn up, forcing Chairperson Prathana Naik Gaunkar to cancel the meeting without transacting any business.
According to municipal sources, there is inordinate delay in conduct of DPC to examine issues of the CMC employees regarding the denied benefits like increment, ACP, MACP, seniority list, etc, and the council has already issued a memo from DMA to conduct the same without delay to avoid financial implications.
CMC has also received two rickshaws (mini compactors) with financial assistance from GSUDA to help in municipal’s efforts to streamline faster garbage collection, especially the wet garbage. The garbage mini-compactors were received on the eve of Independence day.
While CMC Chairperson Naik Gaunkar feigned ignorance for the unannounced absence of the chief officer to the important and special council meeting, a councillor however said: “CO Amul Gaonkar, who is also Canacona Deputy Collector, was very much present in the taluka on Tuesday and had even chaired BLO meetings. Even if he could not attend the council meeting, charge or order could have been given to municipal staff to conduct the meeting.”
Another councillor said: “Such non-serious attitude in running the council is not a good thing for its functioning and similar attitude
of the officials in the past badly hampered the working
of the CMC.”
