A day after the authorities cracked a whip against the illegal and unauthorised sale of fish near the wholesale fish market underpass, sale of fish by the migrants at the makeshift market falling in Seraulim village stopped on Friday.
However, as a couple of migrants were seen shifting their operation from the makeshift market to the gate erected by the Water Resources Department near the wholesale fish market culvert, the authorities, including the district authorities, the Colva police and the FDA have a task cut out “ how to stop the illegal and unauthorised vending of fish by the migrant fish vendors.
The authorities had conducted the joint inspection of the makeshift fish market at Seraulim near the wholesale fish market after a video showing sale of stale and damaged fish went viral on social media.
Margao sopo contractor, Milagres Fernandes, who had shot the video and made it viral thanked the deputy collector, the Colva police and the Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas for taking cognisance of the video and cracking a whip against the makeshift fish market. “I had made a video of the stale fish being sold by the migrant fish vendors to the gullible fish loving Goans. This practice has to stop since it is not only the stale fish the migrant vendors were selling, but they were caught cleaning the fish by drawing water from the rivulet playing host to sewage water,” Milagres added.
