As per the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) report, this year there has been less number of crimes committed against women in Goa as compared to the figures recorded in the last three years. However, the report of the record bureau has reprimanded agencies for what it said procedural lapses in investigations into most of the cases of crimes against women which resulted in delay of justice to the victims.
According to the NCRB survey, police recorded 369 crimes against women in the year 2017, in 2018, a mild decline was noticed with a total of 362 such crimes recorded and in 2019 a total of 329 crimes against women was registered in the State, showing a major decline in crimes committed on women in Goa.
However, the crime detection rate statistics gives a completely different story with around 112 or 23.9 percent of crimes against women going undetected by the police.
There are around 1563 cases, the primary hearing of which is pending before the courts. In the year 2019, a total 24 accused were acquitted due to lack of evidence which includes 22 men and 2 women. Only 22 accused were convicted which include 2 women.
