Following a complaint lodged by social activist Judith Almeida, GCZMA Member Secretary Agnelo Fernandes has issued directions to a dance floor at Curtorim to raze down the structures and restore the land to its original position.
The authority has noted that the structures in question are clearly in violation of Coastal Regulation Zone notification 2011, further observing that the google maps submitted by the complainant of the year 2003, 2010 and 2015 clearly depict that the land filling is done to construct the illegal constructions.
Addressing the media, Judith Almeida said there were many complaints filed by other citizens which remained unresolved before she stepped in.
Surprisingly, Almeida said the deputy collectors dropped the proceedings more than twice.
“In the last instance shockingly, the deputy collector, Ajit Panchwadkar suddenly preponed a hearing without any notice to the complainant and dropped the proceedings just before he was transferred. A complaint has been filed before the collector, south,” she added.
Judith pointed out that GCZMA has observed that the structures have been used by the owner for commercial purpose i.e wedding/party venue without obtaining any permission from the Authority.
