MARGAO
Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte’s ambitious Citizens Service Centre (CSC) continues to give nightmares for the citizens of Salcete, with residents complaining of lack of adequate staff to man the counters and the delay in dishing out services.
Wednesday saw Curtorim Panch member Simon Barretto raising an uproar at the CSC after he found to his surprise and shock the delay spanning over an hour and half in
getting his services at the counters.
Simon was further infuriated by the attitude of the staffers as they refused to cite the reason behind the rejection of a resident certificate. While the staffers manning the counters refused to entertain any query,
Simon was assured of a photocopy of his residential certificate form only after an officer intervened.
Trouble started when the panch member found to his surprise that though he was issued a token over an hour and half ago, he was not attended to by the CSC. A lady who was also seated in the CSC pointed out that she has been coming to the CSC since the last two days, but she has not been attended to by the system.
What further caused the uproar was when Simon demanded to know the reasons behind the rejection of the residence certificate, saying he has already paid an amount of Rs 59 to the CSC and will not pay a single rupee towards obtaining the certificate.
His plea to hand him over the residence certificate form so that he can pursue the matter with the taluka mamlatdar was denied to him and it was only after an officer intervened that he was promised of a photocopy of the form.
Though the CSC was inaugurated by the Revenue Minister months ago, the centre continues to be hit by one problem or the other, with citizens complaining that the token system has failed to achieve the objective of rendering quick services to the citizens, demanding that the government streamline the system to meet the requirements of the citizenry.
