The major water pipeline at Cujira junction was finally repaired on Saturday evening but the affected areas like Alto-Santa Cruz, Kenkre Estate, Curca, Bambolim, Siridao, Paliem, Zuari-Goa Velha and other areas in St Andre constituency, will have to wait for another day as water was released only to the water tank supplying water to GMC.
Earlier, after completing the welding work of joining the two pipelines at one end, the water was released at 6 am on Saturday. However, the water started leaking at the other end with water gushing out.
The PWD officials then decided to put a clamp to the joint to control the leakage and began the work at around noon time. But at the same time the water was released at low pressure to GMC.
And it was only at 5.30 pm that the PWD workers were able to clamp the leaking joint and stop the leakage of water, giving a huge sigh of relief to the engineers AE Prashant Gaude, JEs Ghanashyam Gaude and Varad, PWD workers and workers of the contractor MVR who had camped at the site since Thursday when the pipeline had ruptured. The pressure was then slowly increased and engineers waited for more than an hour to be completely sure that the water leakage was brought under control.
However, the PWD officials informed that, water will be released to GMC on priority, and only then water will be released to the affected areas.
