Aiming at addressing the issue of traffic congestion at the integrated school complex in Cujira, Bambolim, State Directorate of Education (DoE) has directed the schools to follow staggered timings.
With this decision, schools have planned to have a gap of five to ten minutes in their opening and closing timings.
Dr K B Hedgewar is expected to follow school hours from 7.40 am to 1.25 pm, Dhempe Higher Secondary from 7.45 am to 1.35 pm, Mushtifund from 7.50 am to 1.40 pm and Our Lady of Rosary from 8 am to 1.45 pm.
Education Director Gajanan Bhat along with North Goa DySP (Traffic) Dharmesh Angle on Thursday held a meeting with the heads of the four institutions based in Cujira.
However, the meeting also resolved not to allow parking of vehicles along the complex road. Instead, teaching and non-teaching staff have been given an option of parking their vehicles on temporary basis either within the institution premises, or within the parking area at Bambolim stadium, or at an open plot which is on the left hand side just while entering the complex. Nonetheless, the Traffic Cell has also suggested involvement of parents as traffic wardens.
Presently four institutions “ Mushtifund, Dr K B Hedgewar, Our Lady of Rosary, Miramar and Dhempe Higher Secondary “ have already begun with their classes for the current academic year. Soon, Dempo College of Commerce and Economics will also reopen for the academic year. Speaking to The Goan Everyday, Bhat said,
“The buses entering the Cujira Complex will have to drop the students at entry point of the complex. However, Bal Rath buses will be allowed to come till the school premises. Secondly, if any vehicle is found parked along the road from Monday onwards, the Traffic cell will clamp them. The opening and closing timings of schools spread over nearly half an hour so that parents and students do not face any problem.”
Speaking on the construction of the ring road which will be an exit point for the complex, Bhat said, “The construction of the small stretch of road via the BSNL property has already begun and the work is expected to be completed within the next 15 days. This should solve the problem to a large extent.”
Meanwhile, North Goa SP (Traffic) Devesh Kumar Mahla informed that five police personnel will be exclusively deployed at the Complex for maintaining traffic discipline.
“Presently, it is only the first week of the school and most of the parents are coming with their four-wheelers to drop their children. We expect that this crowd would be reduced in another 15 days. Since last three days we are also conducting a study on how many vehicles actually enter the complex which will help us in traffic management in future,” he said.
