Blaming his own government for the sorry state of affairs at the Corlim Industrial Estate, Cumbarjua BJP MLA, Rajesh Faldessai on Friday said that the industrial estate was in bad shape and maximum number of industrial units were either shut or non-operational.
Faldessai also said that he was getting the short end of the stick, as the Industries Minister Mauvin Godinho suddenly held a meeting at the industrial estate without taking him into confidence.
“I have been holding meetings with stakeholders of the industrial estate to understand and resolve several of their problems. Then one day, the Industries Minister comes and holds a meeting at the industrial estate. I don’t know if the minister has something against me...,” Faldessai said.
However, Industries Minister Mauvin Godinho made light of the allegations stating that there was no attempt to sideline the MLA and works have been taken up at the industrial estate.
Godinho said road asphalting works have been taken up while a compound wall will be constructed wherever there are gaps by May 31.
He said a decentralised solid waste management system will be set in Kundaim Industrial Estate and Corlim Industrial Estate shall be linked up with the facility to manage the solid waste generated within the industrial estate.
He also said that setting up of a raw water pumping station and work on maintenance of the storm water drainage system will be taken up by May 31.
Further fire hydrant system will be installed by the end of December this year, he said.
“Out of the 107 industries, 86 units are operational while 21 are not functioning,” Godinho informed to a pointed question of the Cumbarjua MLA.
Faldessai was quick to point out that the minister was wrongly informed and that 70 industrial units were not functioning in the Corlim.
Mayem MLA Premendra Shet said that his constituency which is close to the Corlim Industrial Estate would stand to benefit if good industries were set up there.
“If Corlim Industrial Estate is developed well and a good transport system is put in place then people of my constituency could also get employed there,” Shet said.
St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar stressed the need to revive the industries in the industrial estate so that locals get employment.
