Industries Minister Mauvin Godinho on Friday told the Goa Legislative Assembly that the State government has plans to bring non-polluting and environment friendly industries which will generate maximum employment to locals at Quitol Industrial Estate in Quepem.
Godinho also said that the government has acquired over 8 lakh sq mt of land in Quitol and the focus was to set up entertainment-related industries in the area.
“Projects like amusement park, theme park, drone manufacturing etc which are non-polluting and which will generate maximum employment to local youth will be given preference. By no means we will get polluting industries in the State,” Godinho assured the House.
The Industries Minister was responding to a starred question tabled by Quepem MLA Altone D’Costa seeking to know whether industries at Quitol Industrial Estate would generate jobs to locals in Quepem.
Godinho said the government wanted to use a holistic approach while developing the 8.83 lakh sq mtr of land which has already been acquired.
“The government is considering to take up special project for Quitol Industrial Estate. We are thinking out of the box and planning to bring good industries in Quitol as early as possible,” he said.
He further said that as far as Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) and Goa Investment Promotion and Facilitation Board (IPB) were concerned, no proposals have been received from a hospitality company requesting land at Quitol Industrial Estate or Auxiliary park land.
He said roads in part of the area acquired for industrial estate has been asphalted by the GIDC while PWD water supply and electric lines were passing within and nearby to the industrial estate.
“As far as IPB is concerned, no proposals have been received or passed for projects within villages and municipal areas in Quepem constituency, since the last five years,” Godinho said.
Earlier, the Quepem MLA pointed out that he did not want to give false promises to his constituents in terms of employment and wanted the government to give a commitment whether any industries will come up in Quitol in the next two to three years.
