It may be recalled that the villagers from Veling-Priol-Cuncoliem Panchayat on September 24 had asked bouncers, who were guarding the area being used to make plots, to leave the site. On October 2, the locals had allegedly damaged the vehicle of property owner, Hitendra Shinkre.
The Priol-Veling-Cuncoliem panchas claim that the property is being developed without any permission, but the counsel of the property owner said all papers are clear and government departments are free to take any action, if any illegalities were found.
Addressing a news conference on Monday, property owners, Jitendra Shinkre, Hitendra Shinkre, Shailendra Shinkre, along with caretaker Ashok Gaude and their counsel Adv Saish Mhambre alleged that ‘politicians’ are unnecessarily harassing them.
“These politicians have created terror-like situation in our property, who damaged the vehicle of my brother on October 2 and similar incidents have occurred earlier. I request the State government to give us protection,” Shailendra Shinkre demanded. “The politicians who are opposing development of our property had earlier come to us as brokers. They are deliberately instigating people against us,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ponda Police has registered a case against Somnath Gaude, Krishna Gaude, Naresh Gaude, Akshay Naik and 41 others, which includes 30 women, under Sections of 143, 147, 447, 427, 341, 504, 506 (r/w 149) of Indian Penal Code for allegedly damaging the vehicle of Hitedra Shinkre.
Hitendra said a mob of 40 people attacked him and he fled to save his life. “We had several times complained against these people with the police, but no action has been taken,” Hitendra Shinkre lamented.
To a query, Adv Mhambre said property papers of his clients are clear and they have obtained all necessary permissions. “The part of land which was being developed falls under ‘settlement’, hence there is no question of illegalities and if any, departments concerned are free to take action,” Adv Mhambre said.
