That Deepa was accompanied to the office of the Returning Officer by MMC Vice-Chairperson Doris Texeira and Councillors Manjo Masurkar and Shrada Prabhudesai, indicates that the Digambar Kamat-backed Model Margao means business and is bracing up to go all out to retain the seat, left vacant following the death of councillor late Ashlesha Naik.
While Deepa has received the support of the Margao MLA and his Model Margao panel, the BJP has decided to support the candidature
of Succorina Fernandes for the seat.
The BJP has also got the support of late Ashlesha’s father Ramesh Naik, who has called upon the people of Ward No. 21 to get Succcorina elected by a huge margin.
Though the bye-election will not effect any changes in the composition of the Council headed by Babita Angle Prabhudesai, it has heightened interest simply because the bye-election has come ahead of the 2017 Assembly election, and which will only give an insight into the extent of support the Digambar Kamat and the BJP camps enjoy with the
electorate of Ward No. 21
in Margao.
