Cuncolim councillors to revoke house numbers to units in Ind estate

MARGAO
In a major development, Cuncolim Municipal councillors discussed and resolved to withdraw and revoke the house numbers issued to factories in Cuncolim Industrial Estate which are outside the industrial zone and under preview of CMC jurisdiction.

At the meeting chaired by Chairperson Landry Mascarenhas, the councillors have also demanded that the Council shall not issue any NOCs for the dumping of Industrial Waste/ Slag outside the IDC boundaries.

The resolutions adopted by the Cuncolim civic body assumes significance and comes against the backdrop of the fact that an illegal shed has come up outside the IDC jurisdiction and that industrial slag was found dumped in a plot outside the IDC. Last year, Cuncolkars had taken to the streets to protest over a well dug up outside the IDC limits and the discharge of untreated waste water in the water bodies.

Meanwhile, citizens led by Aviraj Desai and Vijai Prabhu have hailed the decisions taken by the Cuncolim Municipal Council on Friday. The duo said the councillors of the Cuncolim Municipal Council demonstrated unwavering commitment to protect the land of Cuncolim by unanimously adopting resolutions aimed at curbing the dumping of industrial waste outside the boundaries of the Cuncolim Industrial Estate.

They said these resolutions hold immense significance as they come in response to the concerted efforts of the villagers of Cuncolim, alongside the Leader of Opposition and local MLA, Yuri Alemao, who have tirelessly fought against industrial pollution over the past two years.
