The long-neglected Cuncolim freedom fightersmemorial park is set for an upgrade, with the government floating a tender forthe work at an estimated cost of Rs 1.17 crore.
Leader of Opposition and Cuncolim MLA YuriAlemao said the project will be executed by the PWD and is expected to becompleted within 300 days.
Alemao said he had raised the issue in the GoaLegislative Assembly and outside over the last four and a half years, and urgedthe government to commence the work and complete the upgradation on priority.
Meanwhile, a group of Cuncolim residentsexpressed gratitude to Alemao for initiating the upgradation of the park nearthe KTC Bus Stand. Addressing the media, South Goa District Congress PresidentAssiz Noronha said, “BJP MLAs, including one who defected from Congress to BJP,did nothing for the constituency. We are happy that Yuri Alemao is continuingthe works started by his father, while also bringing in new projects like thehospital. We are thankful to him,” Noronha said.
Adv Sapnil Dessai added that a few politicalactors, funded by certain business houses, are spreading misinformation aboutthe works undertaken by Alemao.
“Our MLA is fighting against pollution, butthese political mushrooms or seasonal frogs are trying to divide people. Wewill not allow anyone to play with the health of Cuncolim’s residents. We willstand firmly with him when he takes decisions in the interest of the people,whether against pollution or against social elements destroying communalharmony,” Dessai said.
