Cuncolim IDC distillery de-sealed after GSPCB payment compliance

The Goa State Pollution Control Board on Friday de-sealed the distillery at the Cuncolim Industrial Estate after the unit paid an Environmental compensation amounting to Rs 37,500 and a bank guarantee of Rs 8 lakh to the Board.

Based on the GSPCB order revoking the order to seal the unit, Salcete Mamlatdar Prataprao Gaonkar and his team on Friday de-sealed the distillery.

Along with the distillery, the GSPCB had ordered suspension of operations of five other units, including a fish meal plant, two fish processing units and ice cold storage unit.

The Salcete Mamlatdar, however, said his office has received the lone order to de-seal the distillery.

In her order, GSPCB Member Secretary Dr Shamila said the Board has decided that the distillery unit is required to submit a Bank Guarantee for an amount of Rs 8 lakh valid for a period of one year so as to ensure that the unit operates in compliance to the conditions as contained in the Consent to Operate order dated 06/07/2020 issued to the unit by the Board.

“It is further decide that your unit will be required to pay an Environmental Compensation of an amount of Rs 37,500 to this Board on account of violation of condition no.3(iv) of the Consent to Operate order dated 06/07/2020 issued to your unit by this Board under the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974,” she stated.

The GSPCB Member Secretary revoked the suspension order under section 33(A) of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, after the distillery paid the Environmental Compensation and also submitted the bank guarantee amounting to Rs 8 lakh.
