Cuncolim industries flag frequent power outages

Exporters seek CM’s intervention as disruptions hit production

MARGAO

The Seafood Exporters Association of India (Goa Chapter) has drawn the government’s attention to the frequent and irregular power outages being experienced by industries operating in the Cuncolim Industrial Estate.

In a letter, the association has sought the intervention of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to ensure that industries at the Cuncolim Industrial Estate receive continuous, reliable and uninterrupted power supply, particularly during the ongoing and forthcoming export season.

They further requested the CM to direct the concerned authorities to urgently examine the power infrastructure serving the industrial estate, identify the reasons for the recurring outages and take necessary corrective and preventive measures to ensure a stable supply. “Reliable electricity is critical for protecting industrial production, employment, exports and the overall competitiveness of our industries in Cuncolim Industrial Estate,” the association said.

Saying the timing is particularly critical as the export season is now commencing, with industries gearing up production to meet domestic and international orders, the association said that reliable and uninterrupted electricity supply is essential for manufacturing, processing, cold storage, packaging and other industrial operations.

“Frequent power interruptions and fluctuations are causing significant disruption to production schedules and are resulting in heavy financial losses to industries. Sudden outages lead to production stoppages, wastage of raw materials, disruption of machinery and processing operations, delays in dispatches and additional operational costs. For export-oriented industries, such disruptions can also result in missed shipment schedules and adversely affect commitments made to overseas buyers,” the association said.

It added:  “Our industries cannot operate efficiently when power supply remains unpredictable. The continued disruptions are particularly concerning during the peak export period, when uninterrupted production is crucial for maintaining Goa’s reputation as a reliable manufacturing and export destination.”
