Addressing the media, Adv John Monteiro has warned the civic body that it will have to face the music if the municipality goes ahead and accepts the DefExpo waste at the waste treatment plant. “People of Cuncolim will lead an agitation against the ruling councillors of Cuncolim Municipal Council if the DefExpo waste is accepted at Cuncolim,” he said.
While making an appeal to the civic body to reject the contractor’s proposal for waste disposal at the Cuncolim waste treatment plant, Monteiro said the CMC waste treatment plant cannot accept outside waste since the plant is designed to treat only the waste generated in the town.
He recalled that the CMC had in the past resolved not to accept outside waste at the plant, while asserting that any decision by the present council will be objected tooth
and nail.
Meanwhile, CMC Vice-chairperson Mario Moraes has said that the civic body has not received any formal request from the DefExpo organisers in this regard, adding that only the contractor had requested the CMC for permission, which has been turned down by the council.
