Cuncolim seat quandary: Girish says no injustice to Yuri, Elvis

PANAJI
State Congress president Girish Chodankar on Sunday offered a cryptic response to questions about the Congress assembly election ticket for the Cuncolim constituency, especially with the induction of former Goa AAP convenor Elvis Gomes into the party fold.

When asked who would be the claimant to the party ticket, Gomes, the new entrant or Yuri Alemao, who was inducted into the November last year, Chodankar offered a convoluted response, but added that “no injustice” would be meted out to either politician.

“Yuri Alemao and Elvis have different identities. They (both) have qualities. Yuri is a professional pilot. He lands and takes off well. He handles the plane when there is turbulence,” Chodankar said.

“Elvis was a commissioner with a good track record in government. He has administrative experience. He fought two elections on behalf of AAP and he has that experience too. Congress will use the specialities and experience of them both,” he also said.

“Congress will take the required decision in the interest of them both, the Congress and the state at the right time. No injustice will be meted out,” he further said.

Yuri Alemao, who was present during Gomes’ induction ceremony at the state Congress headquarters in Panaji, said that he was a “loyal soldier” of the party and added that he had taken Gomes’ entry into the Congress positively.

“All of us thought that BJP is the enemy. I will be the first one to welcome them (new entrants) at the door. I have taken it quite positively. Congress should reach as per our survey 25-26 seats. Pan Goa wherever people are entering I will be the first person to welcome them with open doors,” Alemao said.
