Port town pollution report delayed

The source apportionment report of port town of Vasco by IIT Mumbai panel has been delayed earlier due to lockdown and now the official concerned of IIT Dr Veerendra Sethi is recovering from a surgey. 

“The IIT incharge of the panel has undergone bypass surgery and we can’t trouble him now,” said Goa State Pollution Control Board chairman Ganesh Shetgaonkar. 

The board had commissioned a comprehensive source apportionment study through IIT, Powai, in April 2018 at a cost of around Rs 94 lakh. 

The study has been conducted in view of coal pollution in the port town.

The IIT Bombay team has to find out the emission 

load from various sources of air pollution in the port town. 

The IIT panel submitted its first phase primary result in May 2018. However, second phase study report has not come in yet. 

During the lockdown of last one, year nothing could be done about the study.
