The Curca Gram Sabha, on Sunday, resolved to oppose the Nauxim marina project tooth and nail as it would adversely affect the livelihood of local fishermen.
The panchayat authorities have been urged to send the resolutions to the authorities concerned and also all the thirteen panchayats who would be affected by the project.
Speaking on the occasion, Goemkars Against Marina’s (GAM) convenor Adv Suresh Palkar pointed out that the project proponents have sought to bring in the project through lies.
“In the Form I, which has to be submitted for the project, the proponents have falsely stated that the closest educational institute is in Panaji when the Goa University is just next door,” Palkar stated.
“Further, it has been stated that there is no school or hospital located in the vicinity even though the Cujira Educational Complex and GMC are located nearby. Also, it has been stated that there is no defense establishment when the 5TTR is present in Bambolim,” Adv Palkar said.
Sarpanch Leena Naik extended support of the panchayat to the people in opposing the project and stated that they will always be there with the people on the issue.
The other panchas present also voiced their opposition to the marina, including Deputy Sarpanch Vinesh Adpaikar.
