Locals take to the streets carrying empty cylinders

Tension prevailed at Vodlemol–Cacora in Curchorem on Tuesday as residents took to the streets carrying empty cooking gas cylinders to protest against the lack of LPG supply for three weeks.
The protesting villagers said that for over 20 days, the local gas agency has failed to deliver refills despite bookings made well in advance.
Many consumers said they have waited for more than a month after booking but have still not received cylinders, causing serious hardship, especially for women managing daily cooking.
Villagers pointed out that nearby areas such as Quepem, Sanguem and Sanvordem continue to receive regular gas supplies. They said the shortage mainly affects the Curchorem belt, where distribution is handled through a cooperative society, and called the supply irregular and unfair.
According to the protestors, authorities have been giving unclear replies, claiming that the shortage is not limited to Curchorem and is being seen in other areas due to supply constraints. However, villagers questioned this, noting that neighbouring areas are not facing similar issues.
Demanding immediate action, residents urged authorities to ensure timely and adequate supply of cooking gas cylinders to Vodlemol–Cacora.
Meanwhile, villagers from Mapa-Panchawadi are also facing difficulties in getting cylinders, with some travelling over 15 km to Xeldem in Quepem in an attempt to obtain one.
