Rahul Faldessai, son of Cumbarjua MLA RajeshFaldessai, who was allegedly involved in a road-rage incident at Curchorem,tendered an unconditional apology at the Curchorem Police Station to thecomplainant, his family and the people of Curchorem on Tuesday.
The complainant, a senior citizen, was presentat the police station when Faldessai apologised and accepted the apologyfollowing the expression of regret.
The incident had occurred near the PontemolJunction area at Curchorem on September 26, when a woman travelling from Margaotowards Curchorem with her two minor children and her 70-year-old father-in-lawallegedly got into a confrontation with the occupants of another vehicle.
According to the complaint, the family’svehicle was allegedly chased after the woman honked to request the vehicleahead to clear the way. The occupants were subsequently accused of verballyabusing and threatening the family and allegedly attempting to assault them.
The incident triggered public reactions, withthe complainant subsequently approaching the Curchorem Police Station. Thematter also drew political reactions, and a memorandum was submitted byCurchorem Front and local residents seeking action in the case.
Following the complaint, Curchorem policeinitiated an investigation and issued a notice to Faldessai, asking him toappear at the police station for questioning on Tuesday. Faldessai subsequentlyappeared at the police station and apologised to the complainant.
Faldessai also clarified reports that he wasallegedly carrying an iron rod during the incident. He stated that the objectwas not an iron rod but a stick, which he claimed he carries for his personalsafety while travelling long distances.
The complainant and his family accepted theapology following Faldessai’s expression of regret.
