Currency counting machines seized

MARGAO
The Legal Metrology Department on Wednesday seized three currency counting machines at Margao for violations of the Packaged Commodities Rules based on a complaint from GOACAN. The seizure was done by Salcete Legal Metrology Inspector Mapari and Assistant Controller
Arun Panchwadkar
It may be noted that GOACAN had lodged a complaint with the Controller, Legal Metrology Department on April 3 with regards to the false declaration displayed on the box used for packaging the currency counting machines sold by the Real Group from
St Cruz, Tiswadi.
GOACAN Convenor Roland Martins said these currency counting machines do not have the name and address of the manufacturer embossed on them, but instead have stickers showing the Real Group to be the manufacturers. Moreover, the user manual and guarantee card also do not have the name and address of the manufacturer, he said, adding that the GOACAN complaint was filed after two of these machines were found to be malfunctioning
GOACAN in its complaint had pointed out that as there is no manufacturing facility to be found in Santa Cruz, Tiswadi and no other manufacturing address was provided, the machines packed in boxes can only show the Santa Cruz address for the purpose of packaging and marketing. GOACAN called on the Department of Legal Metrology to curb the sales of the currency counting machines packed in
these boxes. TGN
