Curti sarpanch, deputy ousted
PONDA: In an interesting development, Curti-Khandepar Sarpanch, Deepa Shanker Naik and her deputy Sajjad Mulla, were on Monday ousted from the posts, after Panch Narendra Parab from the ruling group unexpectedly voted in favour of a no-confidence motion.
Six panchas - Sandeep Khandeparkar, Anand Jalmi, Priya Chari, Supriya Gaude, Chandrika Kuttikar and Deepa Dina Naik had moved a no-confidence motion against the sarpanch and the deputy sarpanch. The panchayat consists of 11 panchas, but one was disqualified recently. Six panchas were needed to gain the majority.
In a sudden turn of events, Anand Jalmi backed out from the six-member ruling group and supported the opposition group.
With votes tied at equal number, Narendra Parab from the ruling group raised his hand to pass the no-confidence motion.
Speaking to The Goan, Parab said, “I was hurt by one incident before the meeting and so I supported the no-confidence motion,” he explained.
